Attestation Guide for HR Professionals

As the Human Resources Department in your organisation, when bringing new employees on board, you will need to ensure a smooth induction for your new employees and the management team within your organisation alike. Expat Docs can assist you with part of the employee induction process, and has provided this document to help you understand the attestation process for documents in the UAE.

Step 1: Confirm Documentation Requirements

  • University degree / qualification requirements for a given designation on a UAE Residency Permit associated with a position within your organisation OR documentation requirements for sponsored spouses and children (birth certificate, marriage certificate).
  • Expat Docs recommends that these details are confirmed with your Public Relations Officer (PRO).

Step 2: Confirm the Requirement for Attestation

  • Establish the requirement for attestation.
  • Confirm to what level the document will need to be attested for acceptance of the Work Permit Application at the UAE Ministry of Labour.
  • See the below figure which provides a basic breakdown of the levels of attestation the precede the Work Permit Application to the UAE Ministry of Labour.
  • Expat Docs recommends that these details are confirmed with your Public Relations Officer (PRO).

 Step 3: Understanding of Timeline

  • The timeline for attesting documents varies based on the level of attestation required, the document type, and the issuing country.
  • Generally speaking, Expat Docs finds that our customers request Level 2 attestation (UAE Embassy Stamp from Issuing Country) which can be achieved within a timeframe ranging from 15 to 30 working days depending on the issuing country and document type.
  • Expat Docs is pleased to offer optional additional services for Level 3 (UAE MOFA) and Level 4 (Legal Translation) attestation as required. Details can be found on our website or by contacting us directly.

Step 4: Understanding of Costs

  • The costs also vary based on the level of attestation required, the document type and the issuing country.
  • Expat Docs provides more specific information on the process involved, timeline and costs for document attestation on our website:

    Dear Expat Docs,

Thanks for posting this very useful article. We find that most of the employees we hire are confused and worried about how to attest their degree amongst all of the other bits and pieces they have to deal with when changing jobs and relocating, so it’s nice to know that your service is available for them. We will definitely be recommending Expat Docs.

    Best regards,
